With over 612 species of bird living within the Queen Elizabeth National Park, it serves as a fantastic destination for birdwatching activities due to its abundance of bird species. While on your game drive, you may spot birds like the African skimmer, Chapin’s flycatcher, Shoebill stock, the great flamingos and Pink-backed Pelicans.

After lunch, you will return to your lodge, before heading out for an evening boat cruise along the Kazinga channel in the afternoon. A boat cruise usually takes about two hours to complete, starting exactly at 1 pm and ending exactly at 2 pm.

On your boat cruise, you may have the opportunity to see many wildlife such as hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, as well as different bird species such as the great flamingo, Shoebill stock, Ibis and a number of others during the cruise. Later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Following that, you will drive further south of Queen Elizabeth National Park to the Ishasha sector, which is in the southernmost part of the park. Aside from discovering the rich biodiversity of this region of the national park, you will also get the opportunity to see many other animals such as hippos, savanna elephants, topis, buffaloes and buffaloes among others, as well as the famous tree-climbing lions of Ishasha.

Afterwards, you will be transferred to Kibale National Park, which is located in the western part of Uganda. There are many different types of trees in Kibale Forest National Park, which is one of the prettiest and most diverse tracts of tropical forests in Uganda. Among the species of mammals that inhabit this national park are 70 species of mammals, 375 species of birds, and 13 species of primates, including over 1500 chimpanzees.

Later head back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest & Bigodi Swamp Walk.

A delicious breakfast awaits you in the morning as you make your way to the Kanyanchu Visitors Center in Kibale Forest National Park for a tour. You will be welcomed to the park by the head ranger, sign in and then have a short briefing before starting your hunt for chimpanzees. In the Kibale Forest National Park you will find over 1500 chimpanzees, which makes it the perfect place to take chimp trekking tours in Uganda since the park is home to over 1500 chimpanzees.

In this park, chimpanzee trekking activities will start at exactly 8 in the morning, and will last for between 2 and 5 hours. After you have located the chimps, you will be given exactly an hour to spend with them; so ensure that you have your camera ready with you at all times so you will not miss out on any of the action.

After you have finished your chimpanzee trekking activity, you will head back to your lodge for a quick refreshment, a delicious lunch, and some time to relax. After taking a guided tour of the national park, you will depart for the nearby Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary that is just adjacent to it. On this excursion, you will embark on a guided walk through the Swamp, where in addition to the Yellow-spotted Barbet, Hairy-breasted Barbet, Superb Sunbird, Black Bishop bird, and the rare Shoe Bill Stock, to name a few, you will also get to witness a number of species of birds as well. There are about 138 bird species in Bigodi Swamp alone. Later head back to your lodge for dinner and accommodation.

Day 5: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

In the morning wake up early, have a relaxed breakfast meal, and then transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the late morning or early afternoon. To get to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, it will take about 5 to 6 hours of driving. During the drive to Park, you will get the chance to explore the beautiful, green, and terraced hills of Kabale and their lush vegetation. Almost half of the remaining species of mountain gorillas in the world are housed within the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The national park is also home to about 120 mammals and 350 species of birds.

Upon your arrival in Bwindi, you will embark on a guided nature walk that will allow you to experience the beauty of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest up close. There are dozens of bird species that are found within the forest, as well as monkey species such as vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and so many others. Later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park and Community Tour

Breakfast should be taken as early as possible in your lodge as your guide will pick you up at 6 a.m. After breakfast, you will embark on a short journey towards the Parks headquarters in Buhoma. It is essential to be at Buhoma by 7 am in order to attend a briefing by the park’s head ranger that will begin at 8 am. Then, you will be divided into groups of 8 individuals per group, depending on which gorilla group you will be tracking, and the briefing will end at 8 am. Tracking begins at exactly 8:30 am each morning, so it is imperative that you keep a strict time schedule. At the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, there are a total of 15 habituated gorilla groups that are tracked from four trailheads in the park. There are 15 habituated gorilla groups in Bwindi National Park; of these, 3 can be found in the Buhoma area located in the northwest area of the park, while 4 can be found in Ruhija, located in the eastern part of the park, and 8 can be found in Nkuringo and Rushaga located in the south of the park.

Batwa

The tracking groups consist of a maximum of eight individuals with each group having a park guide and ranger who provide assistance to the group. Depending on how quickly and easily the gorillas can be spotted, the tracking process may take anywhere between one and six hours. When you locate a gorilla group, you will have exactly an hour with them; thus, you should make the most of your time and take good pictures without using your camera’s flash in order to make sure that you maximize your time. As it is a hunting trail, the trails can be very wet, steep, and slippery, so your hiking boots should be of good quality in case of wet weather.

Following your tracking activity in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, you may have the option of having a hike to local communities. On this hike, you may have the opportunity to visit Batwa communities, which are communities of pygmy people that have lived within Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for many generations. There are various performances that can be seen by the audience including; dance, singing, drumming, and storytelling performed by local dance groups. Return back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
